The CISO's multidimensional problem: Governing AI in 2026
AI risk is not a single problem to be managed... but the CISO is being handed it all it at once.
In this session, Dr Joseph Ross sets out a practical framework for the CISO's expanding role in AI: governance for the AI you implement, assessment of the AI you buy, control for the AI that handles the most sensitive of data, and the people who turn all three from strategy into practice. Drawing on experience with the MOD, the Royal Navy, and UK policing, this is a no-slides session aimed at CISOs who are tired of AI hype and want a clear-eyed view of what good likes like.
Personal Bio:
Dr Joseph Ross is the Founder and Principal Adviser of Rossnet Consultancy, where he leads work on AI assurance, governance, and bespoke deployments for organisations in regulated and high-assurance environments. He is a Chartered IT Professional (CITP), Fellow of the BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT (FBCS), and conducted his PhD on Digital Transformation with Artificial Intelligence for the Royal Navy. His recent work includes a research contract as Principal Investigator for AI and Automation with the Ministry of Defence, NCSC CAF Cyber Assessor for a UK Police Force, and two years as Director of the Cyber Resilience Centre for the South West on behalf of UK policing.
