There are many myths surrounding cyber security, not least the belief that only large corporations are targeted by cybercriminals.

However, in this guest article for our partners the South West Cyber Resilience Centre, Aviva emphasises that businesses of all sizes are at risk, as attackers often use automated tools to find vulnerabilities indiscriminately.

Another misconception is that outsourcing IT services negates the need for cyber insurance. Aviva clarifies that while third-party providers manage IT systems, the financial and reputational repercussions of a cyber-attack still fall on the business itself. Additionally, some organisations think quantifying cybersecurity risk is too complex, but methodologies like OpenFAIR and tools providing Exploit Prediction Scoring System (EPSS) data can help assess and manage these risks effectively.
