World Economic Forum research outlines the growing cyber security skills shortage
The results? There's an estimated 4.8 million cybersecurity positions unfilled globally, and only 14% of respondents believe their organisation has the necessary level of cybersecurity expertise. The UK is no different, with latest government reports that 44% of organisations have skills gaps in basic technical areas, and a particular issue with incident management skills (48%).
Even more concerning, nearly 60% reported that geopolitical tensions have influenced their cybersecurity strategies, leading them to modify insurance policies, change vendors, adjust trading practices, or even halt business operations in certain countries. Additionally, almost 70% find current cybersecurity regulations overly complex and difficult to navigate.
The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) is also a growing concern, with two-thirds of respondents anticipating its impact on their cybersecurity strategy. However, only 37% feel they have the necessary tools to properly assess the associated risks.
